SDG Cities Academy: General Training

Are you interested in learning more about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how to take action locally?

The second SDG Cities Academy is a five week training program designed to help you deepen your learning about the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), connect with like-minded organizations and individuals, and explore how to take local action.

This edition of the SDG Cities Academy was designed to be hosted online. In-person sessions will be considered based on participant availability and recommendations from the local health unit. The SDG Cities Academy will have weekly virtual workshops for five weeks covering the following topics:

– Meet other participants and gain a basic understanding of the SDGs:  principles, goals, targets and indicators
– Understand the core equity principle of “no one left behind”
– Set personal/organizational goals for implementing the SDGs
– Brief orientation and onboarding to Mighty Networks Course platform 
2Prioritization and Alignment with the SDGs 


June 1, 2022 – 1pm to 2:30pm
– Identify strengths, weaknesses and resources available locally to support your work on the SDGs 
– Understand why and how prioritization of the SDGs is important
– Map your programs, activities and work to the goals and targets of the SDGs 
– Clearly identify alignment between the SDGs and your work
– Explore examples of how orgs, businesses and others have used the SDGs 
3Impact Measurement for the SDGs 


June 8, 2022 – 1pm to 2:30pm
– Increased understanding of the SDGs as a framework for measuring local level impact Increase awareness of the targets and indicators that underpin the SDG framework, and how they can be adapted and used locally 
– Learn to use key tools to support the development of meaningful SDG targets and indicators for your initiative 
– Learn about existing local level data collection, monitoring and reporting systems and how they relate to the SDGs

SDG Storytelling, Communications and Reporting  

June 15, 2022 – 1pm to 2:30pm
– Learn about how to integrate SDG storytelling into your communications strategy
– Explore SDG storytelling strategies for different audiences 
– Explore ways to report, share and track SDG data to demonstrate collective impact

June 22, 2022 – 1pm to 2:30pm


– Explore the potential for transformational collaboration for the SDGs
– Learn about strategies for coalition building to advance the SDGs 
– Collaborative program development and funding applications 
– Revisit your personal/organizational goals and plan next steps
